Types of Massage Therapy

Swedish: Swedish massage is based on the
Western concepts of anatomy and physiology
and promotes several benefits. Long, flowing
strokes with light to medium pressure is by
hands, fingers and some forearm work. This
massage calms the nervous system and
promotes a sense of relaxation and well being
while reducing tension and anxiety. This
massages movements warm up the muscle
tissue, releasing tension and gradually breaking
up superficial muscle “knots” or adhered tissue,
called adhesions.
Deep Tissue: Deep Tissue massage focuses on
the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and
fascia, also called connective tissue. Deep
tissue uses many of the same techniques as
Swedish massage, but the pressure is more
intense. It is also a more focused massage as the
therapist works to release chronic, deeper
muscle tension or “knots”.
Neuromuscular: A combination of Swedish
and Deep Tissue Massage, this massage also
focuses on releasing deeper, muscular tension
and active trigger points. If you have chronic
lower back pain or neck/shoulder discomfort,
this is the best massage to assist in loosening
“tight” muscles in those or other areas.
Reflexology: Feet, hands or ears massage applied
to a system of zones and reflex areas that
reflect images of the body on the feet, hands
and ears. These zones correspond to every part,
gland and organ of the body relieving tension,
improving circulation and helps promote the
natural function of the related areas of the body.
